
VADODARA, June 14: Sleuths of the Prohibition Department, on Saturday, recovered 318 bottles of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor, valued at Rs 90,600 in the local market, and arrested four people, besides impounding an autorickshaw GJ-6-W-163 and a scooter GAA-5-5958 used for transporting the contraband.
Inspector M S Patel of the Prohibition Department said that the liquor was seized from a multi-storyed complex on Old Padra Road.
Patel said that the kingpin of the gang, Bhakhra Ram Kasba Ram Bishnoi, a resident of Abu Road, Rajasthan, used to smuggle liquor from Rajasthan and sell it in the city through Ramanbhai Shivabhia Patel, Manoj Ramanlal Rajput and Jayanti Chandulal Rajput. Bishnoi, besides, bootlegging, runs a utensil shop in Vadodara.
Patel said that Ramanbhai Shivabhai Patel had been bootlegging in the city for the last several years and had been caught many times by the police and prohibition department. Bootleggers used to sell smuggled liquor to builders and contractors at a high premium, according to Patel.
Patel said that all the four arrested persons had been remanded to four-day police custody and were under investigation.
