It8217;s not just life in a chawl. The chawl represents the whole country and it8217;s seen from R K Laxman8217;s point of view.

After Marathi and Hindi films, you are now going to conquer the Western world with the English version of Astitva?
The West isn8217;t going to see any special effects movie we make, so it had to be this. When I narrated It Rained That Night during auditions in America, women identified with it. I guess the saying men are dogs holds its own everywhere. The film will be shot upto March 13 in New Jersey and be ready by June end.

How have you changed Astitva for the West?
Only a few references. Men are chauvinists everywhere. I8217;m also dubbing it in Spanish and French 8212; in fact, South American men are worse than Indians!

All this is far away from the Sirtex banian ad-film you made and starred in.
I think making an ad is difficult because you only have 30 seconds. I knew I couldn8217;t go on with hygiene and the viscosity of cotton, so I used a macho idea. After all, banians are all the same!

You claimed your biceps would give any hero a complex.
No, I don8217;t have biceps. I saw myself in Kaante and thought I looked fat and ugly. I told everyone I was a committed actor and had to put on weight for the role. I8217;ve only worked to lose that.

Your first love story is Pyaar Kiya8230;
Well, a corporate is sponsoring it. I don8217;t know when it will be released. It8217;s a beautiful film 8212; typical Mills 038; Boon.

What else?
I plan on making An Unusual Love Story with Sanjay Dutt and Kareena Kapoor playing a visually-impaired couple. Then, there8217;s Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav only in Hindi 8212; it8217;s not a biopic on Laloo. It8217;s the names of four different people and will be a zany comedy.

I did ask him. He was cool, he8217;s a sporting guy.

You have your camp followers and that8217;s helped build a ladies man reputation.
It8217;s foolish but it8217;s an occupational hazard. Shivaji Satam is there in all my films. This doesn8217;t mean I8217;m homosexual. I repeat actors I have a tuning with. I8217;m a family man. If I were to do something like that, I8217;d at least be discreet.

You left out my singing in Kaante and the song Tere bin koi bhi pal in my completed film Pyaar Kiya Nahi Jaata. Well, I wanted to play cricket for my country, but now I think I8217;ve done quite a bit.

What of the one-character film idea?
My 90-minute film Struggler. No one in the Hindi film industry can do the role, so I8217;ve chosen someone from theatre. I8217;ll hold a press conference, say on Monday, to announce the film. The following Monday, I8217;ll screen the completed film.
