NEW DELHI, November 15: Forward Gagan Ajit Singh scored three goals to enable last minute entrants I.H.F Blues open their campaign with a facile 5-2 win over Hawks Club Punjab while Hyderabad XI crushed Bihar XI 12-2 in the preliminary league matches of the 35th Senior Nehru hockey tournament at National Stadium here today. In a pool 2 encounter, IHF Blues with several internationals in its ranks turned out to be far superior to Hawks Club.IHF took the lead in the second minute through Gagan Ajit Singh who scored two more goals in the 21st and 52nd minutes.

Harbajan Singh 12th minute and Gursevek Singh 30thm scored a goal each for the winners.

Gabbar Singh reduced the margin in the 59th minute and Sukh Amritpal further brought down the tally in the 62nd minute when he converted a stroke.

In pool 4, Bihar suffered their second successive big defeat to crash out of contention. Bihar took the lead in the seventh minute through Patras Nans. Hyderabad equalised through Sukhdev in the 23rd minute and then scored three more to lead 4-1 at the break. Surinder 5, Bhem Singh 2, Saravanan, Hemanth, Elafas and Dara were the other scorers for the winners. Narender Kumar scored the second goal for Bihar.

Bengal XI were held to a 1-1 draw by Rock Rovers Chandigarh in pool 5 match. Sudhir Minz gave Bengal the lead in the 49th minute and 10 minutes later Jasmeet Singh drew parity for the Chandigarh club. C.I.S.F defeated C.L.W Chittranjan Bengal 3-1 after leading 2-0 at half time. Anil Kumar, Parteek Kumar and G.V.Xaxa scored a goal each for CISF while Eric Lakra reduced the margin for the losers.
