NEW DELHI, JAN 8: The investigation branch of the Income-Tax Department has seized shares expected to be worth crores and some diaries after they conducted raids at 18 premises of cards major Archies Gallery yesterday.

Income-Tax officials, however, told The Indian Express that no firm quantification of the amount can be made at this stage as the whole share transaction would have to be studied in detail. Further, it will be checked whether there was any benami transaction or not. “We have got evidences but the same has to be calibrated,” sources said. The company’s bank lockers would be opened by the authorities on Monday. The entries in the diaries seized would also be studied in the next two days, the sources said.

Officials said that since this was not a cash and jewellery search, the material collected would be thoroughly examined. “This is mandatory because whatever would have been earned through concealment, etc, would have been re-invested in the business,” the sources pointed out. They said that apart from concealment of income, it had to be established whether any investments or expenditure were made outside the books.
