CHANDIGARH, June 7: A large number of people from Naya Gaon and surrounding areas participated in a rally today in protest against the non-fulfilment of SAD-BJP government proposals regarding regularisation of houses in the periphery. The rally was organised by the Ghar Bachao Committee.
Addressing the protesters, committee president Surjit Singh said that Akali-BJP combine had promised during their election campaign that all houses would be regularised after suitable amendments in the Punjab Periphery Act. quot; But no concrete step has so far been taken by them in this regard, quot; he regretted.
They are demanding the stoppage of issuance of notices to the house owners till the case is pending before the government. Later, a delegation of office-bearers presented a memorandum to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal highlighting the problems being faced by them.
While submitting the charter of demands they demanded the constitution of a Notified Area Committee in Naya Gaon comprising Adarsh Nagar, Janata Colony, Dashmesh Nagar, Govind Nagar, Kamaon Colony and Chhoti Karor.
