Hit by failure, engineering student commits suicide

A 21-year-old student of AISSMS College of Engineering committed suicide by jumping from his seventh-floor apartment on Friday evening.

A 21-year-old student of AISSMS College of Engineering committed suicide by jumping from his seventh-floor apartment on Friday evening.

The student, Ankush Ashok Gupta, is believed to have taken the extreme step after failing to clear his exams. He failed in six papers in his first year. Gupta had put in three of his papers for re-evaluation and had taken a provisional admission to the second year course in production engineering.

The re-evaluation results came out yesterday evening in which he cleared two of the three papers. He had four backlogs due to which he lost a year.

At around 8.30 pm he walked to the balcony of his seventh floor apartment on BT Kawade Road and jumped. Gupta8217;s roommates were studying in another room at the time. The music in his room was playing loudly due to which they did not hear any sound. The watchman reported it to P Jangira, the secretary of the building, who informed police. One of his friends, Vipul Kumar, said, 8220;Ankush learnt in the afternoon that his re-evaluation results had come. He went to the college and learnt he had lost a year. He came home and went to his room. Sometime later, he jumped down.8221;

Ankush hails from Balia in UP. He had been studying in the city for the last one-and-a-half year. His friends said he was an average student. His uncle who stays in the city arrived after hearing the news. Ankush was living in Silver Dale Society with four other friends.

His family will be arriving in the city on Sunday.
