KUALA LUMPUR, November 11: Canada upset the form books when they beat defending champions England 2-1 in the men8217;s World Squash Team Championship here today. It was a historic win as the fourth seeded North Americans had never beaten England in any tournament prior to the World Championship.
Despite the defeat, England will join Canada and Pakistan as pool A representatives in the quarter finals which begin Thursday. Graham Ryding was the unlikely hero for Canada, taking an hour to get the better of former world number two Peter Marshall in the second tie.
World number three Jonathon Power had earlier given Canada the lead with a 9-1, 9-5, 10-8 win over Simon Parke after 80 energy-sapping minutes.
