It is a season of annual functions in educational institutions. Many prestigious schools in Shimla are facing the problem of having a high profile chief guest for the functions, of whom there seems to be a shortage. When recently a school invited Chief Minister, another in a bid to outdo the former invited the Governor. But the latter is now reported to be giving its decision a re-think in view of the logistic hassles like comfortable furniture, security and easy access to the venue for the chief guest, which is all being checked by the officials of the Governor House.

A balancing act

The film crews arriving in the town is a sure sign that life in Shimla is limping back to normalcy after it had been thrown out of gear by heavy rains recently. But the situation has put a senior officer in Shimla Municipal Corporation is in a fix. While on one hand, he strives hard to put the civic amenities back on track to alleviate the hardships of the residents, on the other he struggles to keep the bureaucrats in good humour by fixing meetings of their families with film stars like Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan.

The Government Dental College in Shimla recently went overboard in treating some external examiners that they called back some of the examiners who had left for their homes after finishing their duties. One of the examiners who returned from almost near Chandigarh was given a gift pack of HPMC products. But the box slipped from his hand, and all the bottles fell and broke. Embarrassed, the Health Minister, who was also present at the party, promised the examiner of getting the gift replaced.

A bureaucrat, who was posted in a frontline public sector undertaking PSU by the BJP government soon after it returned to power, is back in the department from where he was transferred. After being removed from the PSU, the officer was not given any posting as a punishment, but now even after taking charge of old office, he is hardy seen in the office. To this one of the staff members commented, 8220;Sahab ko without posting rehne ki adapt toh nahin pad gayi?8221;
