NEW DELHI, NOV 4: For the first time after the two went to polls together, Janata Dal United on Thursday admitted that despite good understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP, the coordination between the two parties in some Lok Sabha constituencies did not measure up to the expectations.
Reacting to the grievances made out at the BJP national executive, JDU spokesman Mohan Prakash said there were certainly hiccups of which leaderships of both parties were aware. He noted that a section of the BJP did not work wholeheartedly for Surface Transport Minister Nitish Kumar at Barh. He said such misunderstandings were bound to occur when the parties were fighting in a large state like Bihar. The overall results, however, indicated that the understanding really worked8217;.
He said that after its split the JDU was not fighting for seats but for gaining the party base created by Ram Manohar Lohia, Jaya Prakash Narain Karpoori Thakur, which was temporarily lost. The loss had been regained because the JDU and Samata Party, which was another JD formation fought the election together.
Prakash said though the JD leaders were willing to campaign in support of the BJP nominees in the Lok Sabha constituencies of Raj Mahal Reserved, Purnia and Bhagalpur that went to polls on October 28, they had to be contented with campaigning in Khagaria only since there was no inclination from the BJP. The party had retained Khagaria seat.
About the future understanding for the coming elections in Bihar, Mohan Prakash said the party had sacrificed8217; its claims and had adopted a liberal approach for the sake of victory of the National Democratic Alliance and to re-elect Vajpayee the Prime Minister again.
The assembly elections worked on a different logic 8212; the strength of each party in the region. 8220;Now it is for the two NDA partners to accept the realities and imbibe a coalition culture for mutual growth,8221; he added.
The party, he claimed, had no dearth of talent whether for the chief ministership, ministerships or for legislators who were acceptable to the people.
He parried questions regarding the leadership issue by stating that the leader who will be acceptable to the people of Bihar would become the chief minister.
