NAWANSHAHR, Nov 27: The three-day 60th All India Sikh Educational Conference got off to a colorful start at village Dhahan Kaleran, about 18 km from here today. Inaugurating the conference, former Prime Minister I K Gujral lauded the role played by Punjabis in various fields. He also praised the Guru Nanak Mission Educational Trust, Dhahan Kaleran, which is hosting the conference in collaboration with Chief Khalsa Diwan, Amritsar for raising Rs 16 cr from NRIs to open educational institutions and providing medical facilities in rural area of the Doaba region.

Gujral exhorted the people to be prepared to meet the challenges in the 21st century. Earlier, a big procession in which thousands of people participated was taken out. Gujral also released a set of books written by noted Punjabi writer Sarup Singh Alag on the occasion.
