In a one-sided match, Ecstacy Sports Club trounced Bodyline Sports Club 17-0 in the second WIFA Women’s football league played at the Cooperage, today.

Grace Pereira (11), Maria Rebello (3), Ariti Ahirrao (2) and Vijayata were the goal scorers for the winners.

Vidya Vikasini win
Hosts Vidya Vikasini High School A defeated St Xavier’s (Borivli) 4-0 in the under-14 Inter-School Rev Brother Paulus and Brother Columban Memorial football tournament. Agnel Lopes scored all the goals.

Melwyn Vaz dazzles
A fine brace by young Melwyn Vaz helped Central Bank to trounce Union Bank 4-1 in Group Aof the Air-India Millennium Cup football tournament at the Air-India Colony (old) ground, Kalina, today. The winners were trailing by a first-half UBI goal.

After two successive days of drawn encounters, the spectators who had turned out in large numbers were thrilled to witness five goals being scored.

Central Bank scored through Melwyn Vaz in the 62nd and 74th minutes, Chris Fernandes (56th minute) and Caitano Fernandes (penalty in the 89th minute). Chris Fernandes had given UBI the lead.

Melwyn, who showed superb opportunism, was adjudged the most valauble player of the match.

Thatte in lead
Ashish Thatte emerged sole leader at the end of the sixth and penultimate round of the chess tournament organised for selection of the University team at the Sports Pavilion.

Thatte (5 points) defeated G Balaji of SIES in the fifth round and drew his sixth round with Sushant Banerji. Thatte is assured of a place in the University team for the All-India University championship to be held in Barodafrom January 15.

D Ravishankar, Ramkrishna Kashlekar (both MCC), Sushant Banerji, Balaji (both SIES) are on second spot with 4.5 points each.
