In written reply to Jagannath Patil in the legislature today, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Digvijay Khanvilkar, said that show cause notices have been issued to nine medical teachers. Of these, proceedings under the provisions of the Maharashtra Civil Service Rules (Discipline and Appeal) have been initiated against six doctors.

Following a series of reports in Express Newsline, the erstwhile Sena-BJP government had appointed a committee headed by Pragnya Pai, the then dean of KEM Hospital, to investigate the nexus between doctors and criminals at JJ Hospital.

In its report, the committee had confirmed that a section of medical teachers have direct links with criminals and they were using their official position to help the criminals. All the erring doctors have already been debarred from attending on criminals.
