Gomti Nagar Extension flooded yet again

The increasing water level of the Gomti river has once again seeped into the Gomti Nagar Extension area. For the second time in two months, residents of Sector 1 and Sector 4 have started vacating their homes, which are lying submerged in knee-deep water.

8220;Given the pace with which the water is flowing in, it seems the entire area will be flooded once again. The flow of the waternbsp;has increased since morning, and it has already becomenbsp;difficultnbsp;to move out,8221;nbsp;said Shikhar Chandra, a resident of the area.

On Monday, the water levelnbsp;at Gomti Barrage was recorded at 107.85 metres. The danger level is 109.50 metres.

8220;Sector 1nbsp;was flooded in thenbsp;morning and thenbsp;water is now spreading.nbsp;But thenbsp;administration is yet to come forward to help us,8221; said Devesh Yadav, gram pradhan of the Makhdoompur village, which is part of the Gomti Nagar Extension.

Lucknow Development Authoritynbsp;Vice- Chairman M K Meshram said: 8220;The stay on the construction of a 5.95-km embankmentnbsp;on the rivernbsp;has been lifted by the Supreme Court. We have written a letter to Irrigation Department, asking them to begin the construction work.8221;
