RAJKOT, MARCH 10: The Rajkot Civil Court today allowed the release of Hindi feature film Godmother with certain alterations and deletions.
Civil Judge D T Garasia directed the film-makers not to show the scene in which heroine Rambhiben offers liquor to the womenfolk of her community behind the closed doors on the pretext of celebrating the arrival of water in the village.
However, the judge ruled that the scene might be retained if they were shown having some other drink such as milk.
He also ruled that the two scenes 8211; Rambhiben smoking a cigarette and another at the taluka panchayat president8217;s chamber 8211; should be deleted. He observed that the court had reasons to believe that the movie depicted events related to the life of Santokhben Jadeja, who had petitioned for a ban and obtained a temporary stay from the civil court on the release of the film, which was slated for February 19.
The heroine, being a Mehr who rises to become a taluka panchayat president and finally Member of Legislative Assembly, are the actual happenings in Jadeja8217;s life, the court felt. Similarly, the movie depicting the murder of Rambhiben8217;s husband and the arrival of her brother-in-law from London to console her are also real events from Jadeja8217;s life, shown to be taking place at a different place.
However, the judge observed that there was no scene which shows Rambhiben committing or being involved in any murder.
The judge observed that the court also had reasons to take the movie as a work of fiction by the film-makers, and cited the beginning with a flashback on the samadhi of Rambhiben where people gather to pay respect and said the way she was glorified was also fictitious.
Gujarat High Court had, in response to the affidavits filed by the film-makers that the film was not based on Jadeja8217;s life, had directed that the case should be disposed of before February 24 by the Rajkot court.
However, the hearings could be completed on March 5.
