Goa MLA withdraws hungerstrike

Congress legislator Victoria Fernandes, who embarked on an indefinite hunger strike demanding a ministerial berth, withdrew her fast on Tuesday night, her supporters said.

8220;We are worried about her health and hence requested her to withdraw the hungerstrike which she agreed to,8221; Andre Agnel Olivera, President, St Cruz Action Committee, formed in support of Fernandes, told reporters. Fernandes was not available for comment as she was admitted to the ICU on Monday night after her condition deteriorated.

Fernandes had gone on hungerstrike shortly before the Digambar Kamat Cabinet expansion on Monday.

The four time St Cruz constituency legislator, the only woman member of the Goa legislative Assembly, had wanted to be inducted into the ministry.
