
CHANDIGARH, Aug 30: She is the most respected school principal of the city. Known for her strict disciplinarian attitude, she is known to have reformed the schools in which she has been appointed as the headmistress to an unimaginable dimension.
Recipient of President8217;s award for her contributions to the field of education in 1992 and winner of state award in 1990, the schools under her administration have shown the best results in the UT. Meet, Santosh Raikhy, principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, who has never compromised on the quality of education and commitment towards her job. Incidentally, tomorrow, is her last day on the job. At 60, she would be retiring from the field in which she gave 35 years of her service.
quot;To the principal, without whom the school would never be as it was beforequot;, reads one of the handmade cards given to her by one of her students. Senior authorities in the education department confess: quot;It will be really difficult to fill her spacequot;.
But Raikhy has already stitched out her plans for the future. Sitting in a relaxed mood in her school office, she said: quot;I will be returning to my family nowquot;.
Raikhy began her career at GMSSS-8 and after a short stint at Shimla in Port More Higher Secondary School, she returned to Chandigarh at GMSSS-18 and began her journey to being one of the most successful principal of the city.
A masters in Vocal Music, GMSSS-35 was a challenge for her when she was appointed the headmistress of the school. quot;People thought that a music vocal postgraduate would not be able to discipline the students, it was a challenge that I accepted it.quot; Commenting on the deteriorating teacher-student relationship, she said: quot;You can8217;t demand respect, you have to earn it.quot;
