
CHANDIGARH, Aug 30: Government Model School-22, Shivalik Public School-41, St John8217;s School-26, and Guru Nanak Public School-36, entered the semifinals of the Chandigarh Sub-junior football championship at Sector 17 Football Stadium here today.
In the first quarter final, a hat-trick by Anand enabled Govt Model School-22 beat St Xavier8217;s School-44, 3-1. In a fast paced match, the St Xavier8217;s lads dominated the first quarter of the first session and shot into the lead through Manoj Singh in the 13th minute.
However, after resumption St Xavier8217;s team looked a disorganised lot and were unable to match the pace set by the opponents. Their defence line fell apart in the fifth minute of the second session. GMS-228217;s Anand ran down the right flank and sent an equaliser in the 35th minute 1-1.
He was again on the target in the 46th minute to consolidate the margin 2-1.
His third goal came in the dying moments of the game 3-0.
In another match, St John8217;s School beat Govt High School-37, 5-4 via tie-breaker. The teams were locked 1-1 during the regulation period.
Title holders, Shivalik School-41 scored a thumping 7-0 victory over St Soldier8217;s School-28 to march into the last four stage of the meet.
Neeraj 3 Kamaljeet 2 and Rajbir Singh 2 were the marksmen for the team. In the last match of the day, Guru Nanak Public School-36 defeated St Stephen8217;s School-45, 3-1 via tie-breaker, to fill the last semifinal slot.
Guru Nanak Public School-36 will face Govt Model School-22 in the first semifinal at 7 a.m., while SPS-41 will play St John8217;s School-26 in the other semifinal at 8 a.m.
