Cracking the whip on marriage palaces owners for the gross violation of allotment terms, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority GMADA resumed four industrial plots in Mohali.

The resumption proceedings were also underway against another industrial plot in Phase VI, which was also being used as a marriage palace.

Confirming the action, GMADA Estate Officer EO Sukhjeet Pal Singh told Newsline that the resumption orders were issued after giving enough time to the allottees to comply with the allotment terms and conditions, failing which plots were resumed as provided in the allotment letters.

The resumed plots measure over 1 acre each and were allotted at meager prices in early 1980s but presently their cost was running into several crores each. They are situated on the National Highway-21 near Verka Milk Plant.

8220;The resumed plot owners were entitled to challenge the resumption orders before the Additional Chief Administrator, following which eviction proceedings will be initiated,8221; said GMADA EO.

The use of marriage palaces in the resumed industrial plots was causing great hardship to the residents, who were constantly complaining of widespread nuisance and safety concerns due to largescale parking of vehicles on roadsides, loud music, use of liquor.
