PUNE, Nov 24: Underworld don Arun Gawli, who has been detained in the Armavati jail ever since he was slapped with the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Persons Act a week ago, was produced before Additional Sessions Judge B S Bandgar on Wednesday.

Heavy police bandobast was deployed in the court when Gawli was brought there this afternoon. Gawli moved a petition requesting the court to direct the jail officials that he should be kept in Yerawada Central Prison.

Gawli8217;s counsels Gorakshanath Kale and Nandu Phadke argued that Gawli should not be shifted from Yerawada Central Prison because he faced threat to his life by rival gangs. The application is scheduled to come up for hearing on December 8.

Gawli was arrested along with his kins and several others on charges of attacking a Pune rural police team in front of his father-in-law Shaikh Lal Mujavar8217;s bungalow at Wadgaon Paanchpir three months back.

He was in Yerawada jail ever since he was remanded to magisterial custody in the case. He was shifted to Amravati jail after being slapped with Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Persons Act last week.
