Further remand for accused

CHANDIGARH, July 20: UT Chief Judicial Magistrate Sant Parkash today further remanded the 17 accused in the Sector 17 District Court shooting incident to judicial custody till August 3.

Alleged to be supporters of Harvinder Singh, accused of killing S.A.S. Nagar resident Manjit Singh in the Sector 10 market, the 17 were booked under the Arms Act, for attempt to murder, causing hurt to deter public servant from performing duty, obstructing public servant in discharge of his functions and for rioting, armed with deadly weapon. According to the police, the shooting, which occurred after Harvinder Singh8217;s supporters retaliated to the slogans being raised by the associates of the deceased, continued for over 15 minutes.

Harvinder Singh, along with one Manoj Pal, were booked under Section 302 of the IPC. While the latter was arrested on June 8, the former surrendered before the court on June 27.
