MC staff dharna
The employees of the Municipal Corporation held a protest dharna in front of the corporation office today to press for their demands, on a call given by the joint action committee.
The work at the MC office came to a grinding halt, as the dharna, which began at 10 a.m., continued for four hours till 2 p.m. To prevent any untoward incident, policemen were deployed around the office.
The various speakers criticised the MC officials for delaying the settlement of demands on frivolous grounds, and accused them of adopting a divide and rule policy.
The workers unanimously resolved to continue the struggle till the acceptance of their demands.
Convenor of the joint action committee Ramesh Kant said that they would meet after 15 days to discuss the future course of action. He demanded that all the transferred employees be treated as being on deputation with the corporation.
The other demands include regularisation of work-charged and daily-wage workers, filling of vacant posts by giving promotions to department employees, release of bonus and payment of risk allowance.
