S.A.S. NAGAR, Jan 3: Four residents of Behlolpur village, near Dara Studio, were arrested today on charges of assaulting and obstructing officials of the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) from performing duty.

The arrests were made on a complaint by PUDA General Manager (Regulatory) Hardev Singh at the Belaungi police post.

In his complaint, Hardev Singh had accused Desh Raj, Chand Rani, Harjit Singh and Bhagwan Singh of assaulting officials when they visited Behlolpur to demolish fresh structures on December 28. Four workers, including a junior engineer, received injuries and a jeep was damaged, it was alleged. Earlier, the PUDA officials had complained about the delay in the arrest of those accused of beating up the officials.

PUDA officials, however, maintained that the drive against any fresh construction in the periphery areas reported after December 10 would continue.

Earlier, more than 50-odd illegal constructions had been demolished.
