CHANDIGARH, Sept 24: A city resident was today remanded to police custody for a period of four days on grounds of cheating and forgery. The order was passed here by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate H.S. Madaan.

Accused Ravinder Singh was booked here on May 26 on the complaint of one J.K. Chauhan, chief general manager, India Bank.

The allegation against the accused is that he, in connivance with four others, forged a bank draft dated May 13, 1999 in the sum of Rs 9.55 lakh to be drawn on the above-mentioned bank, Hazrat Ganj branch, Lucknow. The said draft was made in the name of one Mohan Lal but on proper investigation it was found to be forged. Mohan Lal was earlier arrested in this case but others were absconding.

The complainant stated that the draft was fake and the same could be known by the following: the said draft was not on bank8217;s approved format; the bank had no branch by the name of Hazrat Ganj; also there is no such paying branch; there is no authorised statement.

In his disclosure statement the accused admitted that he along with Billa, Aman and Jaspal had connived to forge the same draft. He added that the whereabouts of others were known to him. On these very grounds the police asked for a police remand of 10 days.
