It was nostalgia all over again to see Sourav Ganguly standing in the slips and marshalling his troops during the final game of the series against West Indies here. With skipper Rahul Dravid and his deputy Sachin Tendulkar in the dressing room, Ganguly was the man in charge.

For India’s most successful captain it was just a matter of turning the clock back as he ran up to Zaheer Khan to talk between deliveries, ran to the slips again to move the covers fielder a bit finer and shouted to the man on the fence to go wider.

Though it just an ad hoc procedural change at the top, a few eyebrows were raised. Veteran West Indian opener Tony Coizer said: “Want to know who writes the script for this guy,” while television channels were busy flashing the somewhat misleading ticker Dada bane kaptan.

Ganguly’s 15 minutes of fame was over as Tendulkar came to the field and normal service was restored.
