FARIDKOT, June 1: The Faridkot district administration has taken necessary measures to check and control the menace of floods and ensure that all drains are cleaned by June 30, Gurinder Singh Grewal, Deputy Commissioner, said after inspecting drains passing through the district and reviewing their cleanliness with senior officials of Drainage, Irrigation and Rural Development Agency at Faridkot yesterday.
The DC said he was fully satisfied with the progress of the cleanliness drive of drains in the district. He warned that if any official was found guilty of laxity on his part, stern action would be taken against him.Grewal inspected Sadiq, Golewala, Pakka link, Langiana, Deep Singh Wala and Mudhi Mal Singh drains and directed concerned officials to ensure cleanliness of under-bridges so that drains do not overflow in the rainy season.
He also inspected the working of four drag lines engaged in the operation of cleaning the Link drain and Langiana drain and directed officials to ensure strengthening of banks of the drains.
The Drainage Department was directed to provide four high-power pumping sets to Pindi Balochan village panchayats for emergency purposes.
Grewal took serious note of the delay in the cleanliness of Golewala drain the main drain of the district receiving flood waters of other districts and passing through Faridkot, Ferozepore and Muktsar districts and directed the Drainage Department to take immediate steps to complete the work of cleaning of the drain by June 30.
The DC also took serious note of the negligence on the part of Drainage Department for not removing the unauthorized “bundh’‘ constructed on Golewala drain on the Sadiq Guru Harsahal road.
The district administration was giving a serious thought to the demand of the residents of Machaki Malsingh area for the construction of new drains along the canal, he said.
