Growth strategiesWhat is the most prefered form of increasing business? To get an answer to this question consulting firm Delloite & Touche did a survey of severals firms across the world. The results published in The Economist show that most companies prefer to add to existing operations.But in Japan, the firms say that they prefer to expand through alliances. In the emerging markets, the patterns are different. Most of the investors in China, South-East Asia and Indian sub-continent say that they prefer to grow their business with the help of joint venture partners. Only a small percentage of firms in India and Pakistan preferd to expand with new facilities. But this figure was a high 24 per cent for firms in Eastern Europe.About 20 per cent of the corporations which are investing in the former Soviet Union said that they would use alliances as the best way of increasing the business. Only a small percentage prefered to expand through mergers and acquisitions.
