8226; I am deeply hurt to read about the highly unethical and callously conspired 8220;home coming/army surrender8221; of the unfortunate J038;K civilians which was staged by the Congress activists and perhaps some army officials as well Express Exclusive, Dec 2038;3. It8217;s been quite some time since the reports of 8220;excesses8221; by the army have made it to the front pages. Some time back, a major daily had exposed the 8220;fake encounters8221; staged by the Indian army. Unfortunately, with all this happening, all the state gets on the best of the occasions are big financial packages.

NRIs united

8226; A very good article indeed 8216;The cartoon landscape of the NRI8217;,IE, Dec 4. It was disgusting to read about such behavior. Amazing that money can even buy connections like Branson and Blair. Yet there8217;s an irresponsible element on the writer8217;s part in classifying all NRIs in these two embarrassing categories.

8212; Nishantv Atlanta

8226; I liked the two examples stated by Amrit Dhillon. I live in the US and know what she means. However it is a bit unfair to brand all NRIs as crass!

8212; Dhana Fremont CA

8226; The is a lousy article. The writer has tried very hard to make some guy who donates money look bad. I understand he is doing it for the photo-ops. But he8217;s still giving money to others instead of getting drunk somewhere.

8212; Rajat Khurana Los Angeles

8226; In this scathing rebuke of people like Raj Loomba, I could not but fail to see some bitterness on the part of the writer for being treated shabbily like being fed in the pantry. In tune with the widows who were so humble in their responses, let8217;s just forget how people can be arrogant and can thrive self-induced worship. Let8217;s look at the end result: 1100 educated children will definitely make a difference to our impoverished country.

8212; Manan Melbourne

8226; I have, after living and working in India for 30 years, just become an NRI. I do not see how any of these comments fit a person like me and thousands of other Indians like me who are working abroad and, indeed, have managed to create a positive impression of Indians abroad.

Letting Bhopal down

8226; I don8217;t think the government had done enough to address the issues arising out of the world8217;s worst industrial accident. It has not been aggressive enough in its fight for the interests of the Bhopal gas tragedy victims. We know that only money is not sufficient to give relief in such horrific disasters so the government cannot wash its hands off the tragedy by paying a compensation. Twenty years is a long time for the country to wake up and pay heed to the polluted soil and water in the factory environs.

8226; The editorial,8216;Our time starts now8217; IE, Nov 2, should be a wake-up call. A disaster of Bhopal8217;s magnitude in US or Europe would have resulted in significantly higher victim compensation and better environmental safeguards. We should adopt UK8217;s environmental standards. All legal cases with 10 million dollars or more at dispute involving western multinationals, should be compulsorily subject to their home country courts.
