With the WTA openely expressing its displeasure with the facilities at the ongoing Bangalore Open, the tournament’s fate next year hinges on the organisers meeting the requirements stipulated by the world body for women’s tennis. This was made clear by WTA chief executive Larry Scott.

“At the end of the preliminary evaluation, we have found that the infrastructure available now is of the lowest level and will not be enough for the long term viability. There are a number of cities from the middle-east and other Asian countries who are vying for the spot,” Scott said.

Responding to whether KSLTA would meet the requirements, tournament director Sunder Raju said he was confident they would. “We will grow up to the level and we believe we will meet the requirements. The government has promised to build a stadium which can host bigger events”.
