Face off

As Sharma started to walk towards his house which was at a distance of 150 meters, he was stopped by a police Gypsy which was followed by the policemen on the motorcycle. quot;Three policemen came out from the Gypsy and one of them punched me and called for some Mahavir8217; to stand on my hand, after which I received a number of blows on my legs and feet which knocked me unconscious,quot; said Sharma.

Sharma was then packed off in the Gypsy and takento police station in Dabri without anybody at his house being informed.

At 3.30 am two policemen, Babulal and Ashok, came to inform Ritu, Sharma8217;s newly married wife that her husband was in police custody.

quot;My mother-in-law and I went to the police station. We saw my husband sitting in front of a room-heater on a chair in a semi-conscious state and he was running high fever,quot; said Ritu.

However, the police permitted Ritu to take her husband only on the condition that she wrote in the register that Sharma was mentally disturbed.

quot;On reaching home I noticed that not only was he Sharma badly injured but even his gold chain, watch and wallet were missing,quot; said Ritu.

Later Sharma approached the area DCP and sought assistance in punishing the culprits.
