CHANDIGARH, Feb 19: As many as 100 cataract surgeries were performed free of cost at Sri Gurukrishan Sahib Eye Hospital, Sohana, during a five-day eye camp, which concluded here today.

The camp was organised by the Florida-based Maheshwari Charitable Foundation and the surgeries were performed by the internationally renowned doctor Mukesh C. Aggarwal who had come from Florida, USA. 8220;This is our fourth eye camp in India. We keep holding eye and cardiology camps in other countries as well, says K. Deepak Kapoor, chairman of the foundation.

During the camp, medicines and lenses, brought from USA, were given free of cost to the patients. 8220;We provide consultation on retinal and glucoma problems. About 900 persons visited the camp,8221; said Kapoor. The next camp will be held in Rishikesh in October, he added. According to hospital administrator Satinderpal Singh, the patients who required surgeries were screened earlier during three eye camps held at labour colonies in Sectors 25, 26, Phase VI and Phase X of SAS Nagar.
