8226; With reference to Sudheendra Kulkarni8217;s column, 8216;8216;Swadheenata8230;8217;8217;, it is my conviction that we have lost out on a lot due to deliberate neglect of our heritage. This is largely due to so-called intellectuals and secularists, who are actually casteists.

8226; As Tavleen Singh pointed out in her column, 8216;8216;Laloo Raj8217;8217;, as the self-proclaimed messiah of the downtrodden, Laloo Prasad Yadav seems to have vowed to keep Bihar8217;s population poor and backward, barring his own family of course. Laloo-Rabri don8217;t even make a pretence of working towards development. And after the years of neglect, the people of Bihar don8217;t seem to have any expectations either, choosing instead to migrate to other States for a better life.

8226; While agreeing with Tavleen Singh, I feel that the Congress party which has ruled the country for almost half-a-decade also has to take the blame for the mess in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The political parties are interested in keeping the people poor and backward people for narrow electoral gains.

8226; I hope our ruling elite will heed the sane advice given by Narayana Murthy in his 8216;8216;India Empowered8217;8217; column. They should not hesitate to displease the wrong thinkers and wrong doers. Only then can our poor and downtrodden find a place in our society.

8226; I fully agree with Coomi Kapoor on her report on President A P J Abdul Kalam in her column, 8216;8216;Inside Track8217;8217;. I frequently send e-mails on topics of public interest topics to President Kalam. At times, he personally acknowledges such e-mails, especially when they concern the evils of our governance system. Only a simple President like Kalam can be in direct touch with commoners.
