8226; With reference to Tavleen Singh8217;s column, 8216;8216;Preaching hatred8217;8217;, while it is a fact that the clergy in almost all societies have been responsible for spreading religious and communal hatred, the Mullahs have been most successful in spreading fundamentalism, partly due to the illiteracy and poverty in the Muslim community. Unfortunately, not many Muslim individuals or organisations raise their voices against whatever the Shahi Imam, their clergy or the likes of Shahabuddin say.
Whatever be our religious views or priorities, the reality is that we have to learn to live together. It is time the Muslim intellectuals exposed the minority of Mullahs and Osama bin Ladens for what they are 8212; i.e. frauds. In all civilised societies, the majority of people are peace loving and religiously tolerant. It is only a small number of people with vested interests who exploit religion and thrive on communal hatred.

8226; Terrorism, whether it is in London or Ayodhya, is here to stay. Like Tavleen Singh has pointed out, madrasas are like festering sores. However, it would be unrealistic to expect their activities to be curbed in the near future. Thanks to people like Musharraf, the madrasas will continue to produce human bombs from their assembly lines. India has been the target of terrorist strikes for nearly two decades now. But with the western world only just feeling the heat, it is time for a no-holds-barred war aganist terror.

8226; Tavleen Singh seems to be unable to recognise the true motives behind suicide bombers. It is not Islamic fundamentalism that drives them. It is the last resort of people who feel their country or their compatriots are being unfairly dominated. Pushed against the wall by a more powerful opponent, they use this mode of defence.
The London bombings are a manifestation of the fraudulent occupation and domination of Iraq by American, British and Australian forces. Tomorrow, if India were to be illegally occupied by America or China, and some Indians Hindus, Sikhs or Muslims in the US or China were to become suicide bombers, people like Tavleen Singh would look at the issue in a different way.

8226; Tavleen Singh is afraid to call a spade a spade. The world today is clearly divided into two parts: Muslim and non-Muslim. Before 9/11 and 7/7, both the US and Britain did not take Islamic fundamentalism in India seriously. But after the attacks in New York and now London, it is clear that a jehad is being waged against all non-Muslims. The Pakistani link behind the London attacks also exposes how Pakistan is supporting, abetting and funding Islamic terror in the world with Saudi support.

8226; Tavleen Singh has rightly said that the mullahs have been successful to a large extent in inciting hatred among the Muslim youths. These youths have become a tool in spreading terror and death. Muslims youths should be encouraged to think rationally. This attempt can begin from the madrasas itself where a large number of Muslim youths enrol themselves for Islamic studies every year. The government should also step up efforts to see that the mullahs inciting hatred are arrested.

8226; With reference to the report, 8216;8216;Nothing official about Salman, Ash tapes8217;8217;, what should have been dismissed as a lovers8217; fight and the bragging of a drunk man has been given a completely different perspective by the media, politicians and Salman Khan-haters. They say that Salman8217;s ramblings on the phone should be construed as his confession of underworld links, and so he should be arrested. But shouldn8217;t they also demand Aishwarya Rai8217;s arrest, after all she is guilty of concealing the information from the authorities. Doesn8217;t that make her a partner in crime?
Also, isn8217;t it ironical that while the BJP questions the authenticity of the tapes when its leaders are caught taking bribes on camera, the party is more than ready to believe the Salman tapes.
Most importantly, if the contents of the tapes were so important and legally tenable, wouldn8217;t the police have taken action against Salman four years ago? And if Salman can be arrested for just bragging about his underworld connection then why let off Sanjay Dutt who actually spoke to Chhota Shakeel.

8226; This is with reference to Coomi Kapoor8217;s column, 8216;8216;Inside Track8217;8217;. Regarding the proposed Cabinet reshuffle, if proportion is key to representation in the ministry, the Congress should get more ministers than it has at present. In the era of coalition politics, blackmailing by smaller allies has become the common trend. But the practice has to be stopped for the greater good of the country.

8226; With reference to Pamela Philipose8217;s column, 8216;8216;Grand Danda March of the Pari-war8217;8217;, the RSS-BJP rift seems to be a personality clash rather than an ideological difference. L K Advani8217;s comments about Jinnah were just a diplomatic mention of historic events, in the interest of Indo-Pak relations. However, after resigning as party president, he should hve stuck to his decision, and thus resolved the matter once and for all. Now some in the Parivar are seeking his ouster, further weakening the BJP.

8226; With reference to Soli Sorabjee8217;s column, 8216;8216;Soliloquies8217;8217;, terrorism today has become a business as there is huge money involved in it. Besides strict laws, we need public co-operation to fight it. Meanwhile, the international authorities too should take all possible corrective steps to minimise it.

8226; This is with reference to Soli Sorabjee8217;s column, 8216;8216;Soliloquies8217;8217;. The Taj Mahal is not only an Indian heritage but also one of the wonders of the world. All heritage buildings and monuments of such national importance should belong to the government only. They cannot be handed over to anyone on the basis of religion or caste.

8226; With reference to Sucheta Dalal8217;s column, companies are able to vote out shareholders because of very weak shareholder democracy in the country. With a quorum requirement of five members present in person or by proxy, it is easy for any promoter to pass any kind of resolution by having only his cronies present at the meeting. The requirement of five-member quorum for general meetings of shareholders should be done away with. It is a mockery to think that five persons can decide the future of a company which probably has millions of interested shareholders. The postal ballot requirement lacks transparency. Ideally, the quorum requirement should be proportionate to the shareholdings of the company, and for important items of business, it has to be a simple or three-fourth majority. The Irani Committee obviously keeps silent on this aspect because Irani wants no governmental interference in companies.
