• With reference to Coomi Kapoor’s column, ‘‘Inside Track’’, it is true that our political leaders have misused the investigative agencies of the central and state governments by subverting its main code of neutrality. Officers’ refusal to budge from their duties gives rise to confrontation between them and the system. Take the case of the two District Magistrates in Bihar who showed courage in taking on the mafia and erring politicians. Instead of encouraging them, the Governor transferred them. The investigative agencies and those who head them must be given freedom to function impartially.

• Responding to an item in Coomi Kapoor’s column, I would like to point out that officials holding posts requiring impartiality, including the CBI chief, should be chosen by consensus by the Prime Minister and the Opposition leader in the same manner that the Chief Vigilance Commissioner is appointed.

• This is with reference to Tavleen Singh’s column, ‘‘We can get no satisfaction’’. I want to argue that the UPA government’s performance has been fully satisfactory as far as bijli-sadak-pani is concerned.

• With reference to Pamela Philipose’s column, ‘Manmohan’s report card: Could do better’, it is useless to rank a Prime Minister by numbers in a totally failed system. In the present quantitative democracy, which is miles away from being qualitative, people have no option to rank the better out of the worst.

• The report, ‘‘Terror in God’s own country’’, should serve as an eye-opener for our seculars who are under the impression that Muslims should be appeased, and their terror and killings be condoned. It is pertinent to note the proclaimed aim of SIMI is to liberate India through Islam. It is also very important to understand the teachings in a booklet which singles out India as a special target for jehad, stating that whoever takes part in jehad against India will be set free from the pyres of hell by Allah.
All these show the aims of a section of Muslims in India. Wahabi Islam is nothing but terrorism exported by Saudi Arabia, which is the world’s biggest exporter of radical Isalm and terrorism.
While we will continue to bleed due to Islamic terrorism, we shall progress at the same time. But in most Islamic countries, despite following the teachings of the Koran, they are not at peace. Saudi rulers fear their own people, Pakistan is in turmoil, and the less said about the African Muslim countries the better. It is high time Muslims instrospected why they are backword and poor.
