PUNE, Feb 2: Nelson Lazurus’s sparkling first-half brace helped Ex-Ornella’s derail Railway Young Boys 2-0 and make the semi-finals of the VIth Late Capt. Vasantrao Deshpande football tournament at New English School ground here today.

The scoreline may not of described Railway Boys’ overall display but of the two on view, they posed a better outfit with a much organised game which often troubled their opponents. The Railway Boys’ missed a few close sitters through S Andrews and James whose efforts lacked punch.

Ex-Ornellians keeper Prashant Bhalerao however was the pick of the day as he saved atleast five attempts taken by Railway Boys.

The first goal came in the 14th minute when Vivek Nepali managed to split the defence with a ground pass. Nelson who converged on the ball did well to chip the ball, past keeper Vishal, into the back of the net. Down by a goal, Railway Boys’ came near to drawing levels when Satyajit’s essay from the edge of the box was tipped over by the Ex-Ornellians keeper Prashant.

Thereafter, Nelson utilised the opportunity of being unmarked to complete his second goal in the 26th minute. Good footwork proved fruitful for Nelson as he dribbled past defenders Abdul and Johnson to score. In the second-half both the teams played a neck-to-neck battle but failed to find the score.
