Enhanced surrender package proposed

In a bid to woo back Naxals, Jharkhand on Thursday proposed an enhanced rehabilitation package envisaging Rs 50,000 to surrendered extremists as well as an insurance cover for Rs 10 lakh, a senior government official said on Thursday.

In a bid to woo back Naxals, Jharkhand on Thursday proposed an enhanced rehabilitation package envisaging Rs 50,000 to surrendered extremists as well as an insurance cover for Rs 10 lakh, a senior government official said on Thursday.

Besides, a sum of Rs 2,000 per month is proposed to be given per month as allowance for a two-year commercial training as rehabilitation package for those Naxalites who choose to join the mainstream.

8216;8216;We have an existing policy for those who surrender and today we proposed more to the package that will be placed before the state cabinet for approval,8217;8217;said Home Secretary J B Tubid. The proposal comes two days after the state government brought 25,000 police personnel operating in Naxal pockets under an insurance cover of Rs 11.5 lakh and bought a new fleet of anti-mine vehicles.
