Off-spinner Vikrant Yelligetti and batsman Sushant Marathe, two youngsters of Mumbai XI, had their wish fulfilled after spending five minutes with England skipper Kevin Pietersen.
It was a perfect platform for the young Mumbai XI side led by Nilesh Kulkarni, to showcase their performance against a solid side. And when the stage was set, there was nothing to lose, much to gain for the young Mumbai line-up. As the match ended on a losing note for Mumbai at Cricket Club of India on Sunday, Sushant and Vikrant made sure not to miss a chance to have a chat with Pietersen.
8220;We just requested him and he was ready to speak at that very moment,8221; says Vikrant. The five minutes-talk was all about batting and technique of playing in different conditions. 8220;We just wanted to know how he Pietersen prepared himself before every match,8221; says Sushant.
Being a member of Mumbai Indians, Vikrant earlier had a chance to talk to several big players including Sachin Tendulkar during Indian Premier League IPL.
8220;Just be focussed and don8217;t take your nets lightly,8221; Pietersen told both youngsters. The England captain was impressed with the youngsters and he even complimented Vikrant on his bowling effort.
In a match which saw Owais Shah and Andrew Flintoff score runs heavily, Vikrant finished with a 10 over-spell giving away just 41 runs and taking the wicket of opener Ian Bell. Whereas, southpaw opener Sushant scored a decent 36 off 58 balls against a solid English bowling line-up.
Vikrant recalls how during his spell Flintoff was finding it tough to tackle his spin.
8220;When Nilesh and I were bowling they were finding it a little difficult to play spin. But later Flintoff came to me and told me that it8217;s my turn to hear the music,8221; says the off-spinner.
