VADODARA, July 20: District Collector Anil Mukim has urged the police and the Vadodara Municipal Corporation authorities to ensure strict implementation of code of conduct in the wake of ensuing Parliamentary polls.

He has asked to civic authorities to ensure cleansing of political slogans etc on all the government structures and prevent the same if there are not any.

Meanwhile, all the nodal officers, appointed recently to supervise Parliamentary elections in the district have also been asked to be on the alert immediately in strictly implementing poll code.

Mukim who held a meeting of the officials here on Monday said that he had asked them to keep a vigil on all the government guest houses and machinery as well as the political parties to ensure that former is not misused by the latter. According to official sources, guest houses as well as other government property and machinery have a risk of being misused8217; by the political parties for the purpose of canvassing.

The officials were also apprised of the likelihood of there being more than 2500 polling centres in the district this time of which at least 250 might be sensitive ones, thus requiring more strict vigil. There is likelihood of making 26 booths in Wadi area, 20 in Sayajigunj and 13 in the Raopura assembly segment in city as sensitive booths, the nodal officials were suggested.

Meanwhile, in another development, the district collector issued notices to at least 16 more persons and agencies to clear up their land revenue arrears worth about Rs 1.5 lakh within a fortnight, else their property would be attached. An official spokesman said the notices were issued to the accused individuals and organisations as a part of collectorate8217;s ongoing drive to recover long-pending land revenue arrears. This is because of official steps like the current drive that there has been a remarkable rise in the land revenue collection, during the past six months, the spokesman said and added that about Rs 17 lakh were, thus, recovered during the past one week.
