EC issues notification for 2nd phase of K8217;taka polls

The Election Commission on Tuesday issued a notification for the second phase of assembly elections in Karnataka, to be held on May 16.

The Election Commission on Tuesday issued a notification for the second phase of assembly elections in Karnataka, to be held on May 16.

Sixty six assembly segments in 10 districts of Raichur, Koppal, Uttara Kannada, Bellary, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Shimoga, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Dakshina Kannada will go to polls in the second phase, which involves an estimated electorate of 1,10,26,524.

The last date for filing of nominations is April 29 and scrutiny will take place next day.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is May two.

Notification for the third and final phase of election slated for May 22 will be issued on April 26.

The first phase of elections will be held on May 10, for which the process has already been initiated since April 16.
