CALCUTTA, MARCH 22: East Bengal finished National Football League runners up for the second successive year after beating Churchill Brothers 2-1 at the Salt Lake Stadium here today. East Bengal came back from a goal deficit to win the game which pushed Churchill to the third place. In the other match at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium, Mohun Bagan beat FC Kochin by a solitary goal to grab the fourth place. Kochin finished last.

Somatai Saiza8217;s freek-kick gave Churchill the lead. East Bengal equalised through Baichung Bhutia. Suley Musah converted a spot kick to give them victory.

At Rabindra Sarobar Stadium, Bagan dominated and scored in the 72nd minute with Gbadabo Adebayo heading in Jo Paul Ancheri8217;s flag-kick from the left. Kochin were constantly searching for a goal and even created a few openings midway through the second half. The Bagan defenders, however, did not allow them to score.
