
Vijayawada, March 5: Top seeds had an easy outing on the inaugural day of Andhra Gymkhana National youth u-25 chess championship, scoring facile victories over their opponents.
In a Nimzo India Defence game, second seed Syed Anwar TN effortlessly prevailed over Indian Air Force8217;s Gururajan in 37 moves.
Pankaj Joshi, representing Venus Chess Academy resorted to queen pawn opening against LD Rao of Indian Air Force. Pankaj was in plus position right from the beginning and a blunder by Rao in the 24th move E4 proved costly. Taking advantage, Pankaj pounced on with bd4 move on the kingside of his rival for which there was no proper defence. After a couple of moves Rao threw in the towel.
In another interesting encounter, M Srinivas of AP scored a victory over Karnataka8217;s JM Reddy when the latter made a mistake in the opening phase of the Queen Gambit Declined Variation.
