Dowry case filed

SURAT, July 13: A woman filed a complaint with the Katargam police on Tuesday, accusing her husband and his family of physical and mental harassment. They demanded dowry and drove her out of the house when she did not bring any, she said. PSI L K Parmar has begun investigations into the case although no arrests had been made until evening.

The incidents had occured between May 18, 1997 and May 10, 1998, according to the complainant. She added that the demand was for Rs 50,000 and a colour television set.

The woman has been staying at her father’s house at Olpad for the past several months. She was married about two years ago, and has a year-old daughter from the marriage, the police added.
