February 5: Unseeded Sunil Kumar upset fellow Indian and top seed Kedar Tembe 6-4 6-3 to claim the boys singles title, while Sheetal Gautam prevailed over Sonal Phadke 7-5 6-4 in the girls final of the ITF Junior Circuit tennis championship here today.

Results: Boys (semis): Kedar Tembe bt Dipesh Rao 6-2 7-6; Sunil Kumar bt Mark Weaver 6-1 6-1; Doubles: Mark Weaver & Ahmed Wahla bt Nomi Qamar & Panu Karanes (Tha) 6-3 6-3; Girls (semis): Sheetal Gautam bt Radhika Mandke 3-6 6-2 6-1; Sonal Phadke bt Olga Ozyuba 6-4 6-1; Doubles: Sheetal Gautam & Shruti Dhawan bt Radhika Tulpule & Radhika Mandke 6-0 6-4.

Pratim wins title Thiruvananthapuram: Top seed Sasha Abraham (AP) and second seed Chatwinder Singh of Chandigarh won the Under-14 boys and girls’ titles respectively in the Sajeev K Nair Memorial AITA ranking Junior tennis tournament here today.

In the Under-16 category, second seed Pratim Parikh and third seed Megha Vakharia (Maharashtra) respectively won the boys and girls titles.
