
Property tax: PMC collects Rs 6-cr, PCMC Rs 7-cr in one day
Wednesday proved a record-setting day for both the Pune Municipal Corporation PMC and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation PCMC, as far as the collection of property tax was concerned. The PMC and PCMC garnered Rs 6 crore and Rs 7 crore of amount respectively, in a single day.
The deputy commissioner of PMC and tax collector and assessor Vilas Kanade said, 8220;In a single day on Wednesday, we collected Rs 6 crore, which is a sort of record collection in the history of PMC. This tax came from over 8,000 property owners in the PMC limits. On Tuesday too, we received Rs 3 crore of property tax. This has taken the total tax collection till now to Rs 214 crore.8221; Kanade added, 8220;This year, we had been quite stringent with the tax collection and through various systematic measures, we could collect a good amount of property tax. We had even launched an amnesty scheme, from August 15, which came to an end on Wednesday.8221; He has also appealed the citizens to make timely payments of property tax and thereby contribute for the development of the city. Assistant commissioner of PCMC Sudhakar Deshmukh said, 8220;We had given the deadline for the property owners to pay up the property tax till today, therefore people came forward and paid up the tax on their own to avoid future action and penalty. In a single day, we received Rs 7 crore. This has taken the total tax collection this year to Rs 53.40 crore. Last year, it was Rs 45 crore in the same month.8221;
