CHANDIGARH, July 7: The local political parties and organisations have condemned the shootout in front of the Sector 17 District Courts Complex here yesterday.

In a press statement issued here today, president of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association G.C. Dhuriwala, while condemning the unruly incident, has demanded provision of adequate security by the Chandigarh Administration in the district court complex for preventing such incidents in future.

Demanding a police picket outside the court complex, president of the Sector 17 District Bar Association Amar Singh Chahal also sought a ban on carrying arms and ammunition. Former Bar Association president N.K. Nanda, in a statement, sought the installation of metal detectors at the entrance.Condemning the firing, BJP general secretary Mahaveer Parsad criticised the role of the City police for protecting the Punjab Police personnel.

President of the local unit of the Samajwadi Janata Party Devinder Singh Babla,has called for stern action against those involved. He also feared that once the City was transferred to Punjab, such incidents would be a regular feature in the City.

SAD8217;s local Youth wing Badal president Devinder Singh and SGPC member Amrinder Singh, while criticising the Chandigarh Police for its failure to maintain law and order, stated that no action was taken against the accused even though they started pouring in groups since morning.

Seeking judicial probe into the incident, Samajwadi Party convenor Shivi Jaiswal and spokesman Davinder Singh Dhillon demanded hand over of the security in and around the court complex to the Central Reserve Police Force.
