
PUNE, DEC 12: Dinesh Raghuvanshi a local professional fired a phenomenal round of four under par 67 on the second day of the Classic Western Open Golf Championship being played at the Poona Club Greens here on Friday.
The 30 year old Dinesh played consistently and in the process equalled the course record set up jointly by Gaurav Ghai and Jyoti Randhawa at Pune last year. He has a cumulative score of 140 for the two rounds to join the overnight leader Feroze Ali of Calcutta and Shiv Prakash of Kanpur who have also the identical score of 140.
Dinesh started the days proceedings at a scorching pace picking up six birdies at hole number 1,5,6,7,8 and 10 in the first ten holes but lost three shots on the 12th hole which he double bogied. He however finished with a net score of four under 67 parring the last hole. He had finished ninth last year.
Playing three under the course was Shiv Kumar who bogied the second, fifth and the seventh hole staged a magnificent recovery with birdies on the 6th, 8th and 9th holes to finish level par on first nine. Feroze Ali, the overnight leader, had a par round of 71 today to lead the field. A stroke behind the joint leaders was veteran Rohtas Singh who produce a scintillating round having five birdies and two bogies to finish with a round of three under par 68.
Vijay Kumar of Lucknow and Ali Sher of Delhi who are the top two on the Mahindra Golf Rankings along with Yusuf Ali of Calcutta brought in par rounds today. Vijay Kumar has regained the lead from Ali Sher laying two strokes behind the joint leaders with a cumulative score of (71-71) 142.
The cut was applied at the total score of 155 for the two rounds which was 13 over par for which 40 pros and 8 amateurs have qualified. Among those Pros who could not make the grade included Havaldar Bhoop Singh of Lucknow, Rajeev Mohta and Bunty Randhawa, both of Calcutta.
