New Delhi, Nov 7: Only 100 minutes of play was possible on the opening day of the North Zone Ranji Trophy four-day league match between Delhi and Himachal Pradesh at the Kotla today. Morning showers rendered the playing area unfit for resumption of the game. The hosts, electing to bat, were 94 for three. The umpires officially called off play for the day at 4 p.m after several inspections and some repair work was carried out with the help of the Super Sopper.

Openers Aakash Chopra and Ashu Dani were dismissed within one run of each other in the eighth and ninth over of the innings. Chopra followed an inswinger into the wicketkeeper’s gloves while Dani’s square cut off left-arm pacer Parveen was taken well at point.

In-form Ajay Sharma made a quickfire 34 (53m, 33b) with the help of two fours before getting an inner edge to a Parveen inswinger. Manhas (17: 2×4, 25b) and Akash Malhotra (coming in place of Sandeep Angurala) with four were together at close.

Brief scores: Delhi 94-3 vs HimachalPradesh
