NEW DELHI, January 7: Delhi finished fourth in the cadet boys team events of the 59th Sub-Junior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships being held in Ajmer, according to reports reaching here. The final was won by Petroleum Sports Board which beat Tamil Nadu 3-0. Delhi lost to Tamil Nadu 2-3 in the semifinals after having defeated Karnataka 3-0 in the quarter-finals.

The team championships, as expected, were dominated by Bengal players. Bengal won both the sub-junior boys and sub-junior girls team finals. In the sub-junior boys final, Bengal beat Petroleum Sports Board Academy 3-0 while in the sub-junior girls event, they defeated Maharashtra A 3-1.

The cadet girls team event was claimed by Bengal who defeated Tamil Nadu 3-0 in the final. Mousmi Paul, Debarati Sarkar and Runa Roy represented the Bengal team while M Aparna, Jhansi Rani and B Chindu played for Tamil Nadu.

The sub-junior boys team event final is being fought between Bengal and Petroleum Sports Board.In the semifinals, Bengal beat Maharashtra A 3-1 and PSCB defeated Tamil Nadu 3-0.

Delhi finished eighth in sub-junior boys section, losing 0-3 to Haryana. In the sub-junior girls’ final, Bengal take on Maharashtra A. In the semi-finals, Bengal ousted Maharashtra B while Maharashtra A beat Karnataka 3-1.

Sub-junior boys (final): Bengal bt Petroleum Sports Board Academy 3-0 (Subham Choudhary bt S Roy 24-22, 21-16; Ranbir Das bt V Chandrachud 21-17, 21-13; Jayanta Chandra bt S Saha 16-21, 21-19, 21-19).

Sub-junior girls (final): Bengal bt Maharashtra A 3-1 (Mouma Das bt Sherry Crawford 21-15, 21-11; Sushmita Roy lost to Mallika Parekh 22-24, 12-21; Mili Mazumdar bt Chandni Ashar 19-21, 23-21, 21-8; Mouma Das bt Mallika Parekh 21-11, 21-16).
