DUTA to continue stirDelhi University Teacher's Association (DUTA) executive committee has decided to continue with the ongoing strike. They have also decided to join the Federation of Central Universities Teachers' Association (FEDCUTA) demonstration at Patel Chowk on September 4. This decision will be placed before the general body meeting scheduled for Wednesday for ratification.Electricity supply to be disruptedElectricity supply in parts of the city will remain affected between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday due to maintenance work. The affected areas include Ram Pura, Chanan Nagar, Tri nagar, Keshavpuram, Onkar nagar, Shakur Pur, industrial area and telephone exchange at Lawrence Road.NSUI agitation at Jantar MantarNational Students Union of India (NSUI) staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, protesting the ``irresponsible attitude of the government of India''. NSUI president Alka Kapoor said that a signature campaign, signed by atleast 30,000 students of Delhi University, will be presented to the HRD minister, demanding that the stalemate with the teachers be settled at the earliest so that classes can resume.S.L. Khosla deadFormer chief of the Indian Oil Corporation and the Oil and Natural Gas Commission S.L. Khosla died in the Capital on Tuesday after a brief illness. Widely recognised as an expert in the petroleum sector, the 1958-batch IAS officer has served as a joint secretary in the petroleum ministry as well as the financial advisor. He was also the advisor (energy) in the planning commission. Khosla was the author of several reports on the sector for agencies like the ADB and the World Bank.After retiring from the government, Khosla also worked as the advisor to the Reliance group for its petrochemical foray. He also served as the chief electoral officer in Assam and conducted elections here during the height of the violence in Assam. Khosla is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.Sumat Prakash Shauq passes awayVeteran journalist, poet and litterateur Sumat Prakash Shauq, expired on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at his Press Enclave residence. He was 69. He was suffering from cancer of the lung and had completed last of his books on poetry Khushboo Mehakti Rahi on his hospital bed early this year. A recipient of many awards and honours by state and literary bodies, he was acknowledged as an accomplished Urdu scholar. His work on Firaq Gorakhpuri Thus Spoke Firaq', published later in Hindi and Urdu, was widely acclaimed in various forums. He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.The cremation will take place at 9 a.m. on September 2 at the cremation ground of Green Park. The uthaoni will be held at his residence on September 3 at 9.30 a.m.
