
Petrol pumps to remain open today
The petrol pumps in the city will remain open on Tuesday, following withdrawal of the one day closure8217; call given by the Petrol Dealers Association.
The call was given in protest against an article related to petroleum trade carried by a city-based daily. However, the association, in another press communique issued on Monday, said that the closure call has been withdrawn after the daily published an apology in print and accepted the lapses and incorrectness of the article.
Rs 27,000 looted in daylight heist
In a broad daylight heist, three unidentified persons travelling in an autorickshaw on Monday attacked two salesmen from a reputed garment shop on the busy Laxmi Road and relieved them of Rs 27,000 in cash.
The two salesmen, Jaspal Singh Chiman Singh Rajpurohit and Bhika Singh Giridhari Singh Kharwal, were going to deposit the money collected at the shop with the Laxmi Road branch of the Bank of India when the incident took place.
In a complaint lodged with the Vishrambaug police, Rajpurohit has stated that he and Kharwal were walking down near the Shagun Chowk on busy Laxmi Road when the culprits threw chilly powder in their eyes and snatched the carry bag containing the cash. The incident took place around noon, police said.
Meanwhile, acting on the basis of the complaint, the Vishrambaug police have launched a hunt to nab the culprits.
Kapoor fiat to octroi staff
Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor has issued orders to the octroi staff to intensify cess collection drive against coconut and dry fruits traders, after having recently fined some of them to the tune of Rs 41,000 for habitual evasion of octroi.In a press note issued here on Monday, Kapoor has identified Arihant Agencies, Rajan Enterprises, Sunita Trading Company, Navin Traders and Rajesh Traders, for evading octroi on coconut.Despite the octroi being charged at one per cent of the commodity purchase price, the traders were found to be evading octroi by submitting false documents, Kapoor observed while warning them that heavy fines would be imposed for octroi evasion.
