
Blind Persons8217; Association writes to Prime Minister
The Blind Persons8217; Association has written a letter to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee requesting a speedy solution to their demands. Their demands include special recruitment for blind candidates in the Ministry of Railways, a permanent certificate for the blind for concession tickets, reservation in Kendriya Vidyalayas by Department of Education and recruitment in the University Grants Commission.
Scribes seek hike in retirement age
Journalists have urged the Government to raise the retirement age of employees in the newspaper industry to 65 years.
In a joint statement issued by Delhi Newspaper Employees8217; Federation DSNEF president Anand Prakash, Delhi Union of Journalists8217; president S K Pande and General Secretary Javed Faridi, the unions said after the raising of the retirement age for Government employees this was a logical corollary. In a letter to the Union Labour Minister, the DUJ and DSNEF hoped that the Government would take up the issue on priority and extend the retirement age at the earliest.
Workshop on exploitation of women
The Young Men8217;s Christian Association is holding a three-day workshop starting on Friday on exploitation of rural migrant women. The national workshop on the theme Empowerment of Women-Migrant Women Workers8217; will be held at Dilli Haat and inaugurated by Mohini Giri, chairperson of the National Commission for Women.
Govt8217;s decision on retirement flayed
The Chhatra Janata Dal on Friday condemned the Centre8217;s decision to increase the retirement age limit of the Central Government from 58 to 60 years. The national president of CJD Kunwar Danish Ali in a statement said the Government8217;s decision will increase the frustration among the students and youth. He also demanded that two more attempts be given for appearing in UPSC exams to candidates.
Rly engineers postpone agitation
The Diploma Engineers8217; Association of Railways has postponed the mass casual leave agitation scheduled for May 20 after the Railway Board assured to implement their main demand for redesignation of drawing, design, store and neutral train examiner.
Wakf board seeks CBI inquiry
The Delhi Wakf Board has sought an inquiry by the CBI into the financial irregularities, land grabbing and encroachments of Wakf property. Wakf Board chairman Siraj Paracha, in letters to Lt Governor Vijay Kapoor and Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, said corruption and other irregularities had been rampant in the board in the past. This needed to be probed by the CBI.
